Privacy Policy

Summary

Defrag98 is a nostalgia simulator. It has no accounts, no sign up, no forms and no adverts. It does not collect personal information, and it cannot read, move, modify or delete any file on your device. The drives and clusters it shows you are imaginary.

Information stored on your device

Defrag98 saves two settings in your browser's local storage, under the key defrag98-preferences:

• whether the hard disk sound effect is switched on
• whether the mouse click sound effect is switched on

This data stays on your device. It is never transmitted anywhere, and nobody but you can read it. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Defrag98 also installs a service worker that stores a copy of the app's own files (scripts, styles, fonts, cursors, sounds and icons) in your browser's cache, so that the app works offline. These are the app's files, not yours.

Analytics

Defrag98 uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, uses no browser fingerprinting, and does not track you across websites or across sessions. It records aggregate information about visits, such as the page requested, the referring site, the country and the device type. There is no way for anyone, including me, to identify an individual visitor from it.

Cookies

Defrag98 sets no cookies of any kind. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Links to other sites

Defrag98 links to my personal site at morello.dev and to my donation page at Buy Me a Coffee. Donations are handled entirely by Buy Me a Coffee. Defrag98 never sees or stores your name, email address or payment details. Once you follow either link, that site's own privacy policy applies rather than this one.

Children

Defrag98 is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will change with it. Defrag98 has no mailing list, so there is no notification to send.

Your rights

Because Defrag98 does not collect personal data, there is no personal data of yours to access, correct, export or erase, and none to object to the processing of. The settings Defrag98 stores are held on your own device and are removed whenever you clear your browser's site data.
